MG5
The first all-electric estate car, and named one of our most affordable electric cars for 2023, the MG5 EV offers the space and range to make family road trips a reality where other EVs may fall short. MG has always had a focus on affordability and functionality, making the MG5 electric a great choice for first-time EV owners who are looking to make the switch without losing any of the practicality of a combustion engine family car.

MG5 Excite vs MG5 Exclusive
The ‘Excite’ and ‘Exclusive’ trims are ever so slightly different, but both come with the same base features. To put it simply, the Exclusive has everything the Excite does, as well as some high-tech additions, such as rain-sensing wipers and smart keyless entry. The Exclusive’s glossy gadgets make it the slightly more expensive option – but only by £20-£25 per month.
If you love the idea of features like folding, heated door mirrors and heated leather-style seats, the Exclusive may be the model for you. If the lower MG5 EV price is where the appeal lies, you’ll be fine with the Excite.

MG5 range and charging info
The MG5 EV Long Range enjoys a real-world range of over 200 miles thanks to a 61 kWh battery, making it more than capable of transporting you for weekends away and relaxed road trips.Â
In terms of charging, the battery can reach 80% in 50 minutes with an 80 kW charger speed. So, while it may not be the nippiest of chargers, you won’t need to wait around all day to get some power back under your hood if you aren’t able to charge your EV at home. The slow, fast, and rapid settings are all available for MG5 charging via public charge points, as the MG5 has the Type 2 and CCS charging ports as usual.
MG5 interior
Spacious in both the cabin and the boot, if you’re looking for an electric car with leg room, then the MG5 EV interiors won’t disappoint you. The boot has a capacity of 464 litres, which expands to 1,456 with the back seats down, making this a great choice for people who know they’ll need space – whether for sports gear, shopping, or suitcases.
The controls are simply laid out and easy to follow even with your eyes on the road, and all MG5’s come with a 6-speaker audio system, Sat Nav and four USB ports in the cabin as standard.
MG5 exterior
The MG5 might strike you as lacking the futuristic pizazz we’ve come to associate with EVs, but that can be put down to MG’s focus on function over form. While it’s not the most eye-catching, even with the Exclusive’s silver roof rails, the majority of the MG5’s accessories can be found on the inside. We currently have both the Excite and Exclusive available in white, with the Excite also available in black.

Is the MG5 suitable for you?
The MG5’s dimensions and range make it the perfect car for an active family. This car does well on motorways and shouldn’t be confined to city driving just because it’s an EV. While it’s not the fastest or flashiest EV on the market, its reliability and functionality make it a hit with our subscribers.
Like the sound of that?
Book the MG5 for just a minimum of 60 days on elmoFlex or save each month with our 12-month elmoSave subscription package. Give us 30 days’ notice to end your subscription after your minimum term, or swap to a new car. The choice is yours!

How does the MG5 compare to the MG ZS?
Both cars rank high in affordability, and their top speeds are only different by 5mph. See more differences in our detailed comparison.
Does the MG5 have a good range?
While the MG5’s range is nothing to shout about, it’s not to be sniffed at either. Most EVs have a real-world range of 150-300 miles, so the MG5’s range of 210 comes close to being in the middle of what’s expected.
