FAQs

What are the benefits of solar?

Not only is solar energy great for the planet, but it’s also the cheapest source of electricity today. With increasing energy bills and market volatility, choosing clean, green, solar energy is a win-win for the environment and your pocket.

How do solar panels work?

A solar photovoltaic (PV) panel is made from many cells made from layers of semiconducting material, most commonly silicon. When light shines on this material, a flow of electricity is created.

The cells don’t need direct sunlight to work and even work on cloudy days. However, the stronger the sunshine, the more electricity generated. But don’t worry, solar panels work in winter too!

Why use solar with my EV?

Solar energy can help you become “energy independent”, meaning that you stop or become less reliant on the grid for your energy usage. When you use solar to power your EV, you can save money by using the sun to power your car.

  • A typical 5kW south-facing solar system generates around 18kWh/day between March and October
  • A typical home uses 9kWh per day of this energy. This leaves 9kWh per day of energy that could be used to charge an EV – enough to drive ~36 miles per day for free during those months
  • This means that you could drive your EV for FREE throughout spring, autumn, and summer!
